The simplest way to include your opinion in a 'Discuss both views and give your opinion.' essay.

Your opinion can go in many places. The most important thing is that it is presented in a clear and developed way. Many times when reading a 'discussion and opinion' essay I am lost as to which opinion the writer is ascribing themselves to.

This question type asks for 3 opinions. The 2 sides of the argument, and the opinion of the candidate. The candidate has the choice of totally agreeing with one of the sides, or partially agreeing with both. The simplest approach I believe is totally agreeing with one of the sides. You can choose whatever position you want. The most important thing is that you clearly present ALL three sides.

The approach that I believe is the simplest is as follows:

Introduction: Introduce both sides + your opinion (without details)
Body paragraph 1: Introduce the side you disagree with (It is believed by some that..........)
Body paragraph 2: Introduce the side you agree with. (Others, including myself, believe that.........)
Conclusion: Summary of points

In BP1, the first opinion was presented, and in BP2, the remaining opinions were presented (Others, including myself). This way, there is no need to write a third BP, and all opinions have been presented in a very clear way.

  1. Thanks for your great efforts, Can I say 'It is therefore agreed' in the side that I agree with instead '... including myself', it sounds much better, What is your opinion?.

  2. No. The whole reasoning behind the approach is to clearly state 2 opinions in one body paragraph. That way we don't need to add a third body paragraph for our own opinion. That is assuming that you are in 100% agreement with one of the sides. Taking 1 side 100% makes the essay a lot simpler and there is less possibility for mistakes. Why would you say 'It is therefore agreed'?You have just presented the points for the previous opinion, which is opposing your own.

Sir safwan,i wantes to ask what in the introduction you already mention the side you will be taking the opinion ,for example,"i totally agree with the..."
Should i write still in the body paragraph as you have explained in your blog here,"others, including myself, are of the opinion...."
Will it be repetition that way or not?
    Thank you sir

  5. I would recommend rephrasing the opinion in the second BP. If you think that will be too difficult for you to do, you can omit your opinion in the introduction.
