How do I answer a task 1 question that has 2 parts, a table and pie chart?

Here is a simple plan to follow for all 2-part task 1 questions that involve numbers:

1) Start by analysing the information. Find 2-3 key features to report about for each part (the table and pie chart). Look for the following key features:

a) highest number/lowest number
b) main similarities/ main differences
c) most dramatic change/difference/ Least dramatic change/difference

2) Write an introduction by rephrasing the question. This should cover both parts. Add any important information that is not included in the question. This might be additional information in the table or pie chart, for example, what the numbers are measured in, etc.

3) Write an overview that covers the key features you found for both of the parts in a separate body paragraph . For a lesson on how to write an overview, click here.

4) Compare and contrast the key features you found for the table or pie chart in the first body paragraph.
.
5) Compare and contrast the key features for the second part in a separate body paragraph (body paragraph 2).

6) If there is a direct relationship between the table and chart, for example, you could compare the numbers in a third body paragraph. For instance, if the table showed the use of energy sources, and the pie chart showed the emissions of each source, you could compare the use with the emissions in this body paragraph.

This plan can be used for any combination (graph, bar chart, table, pie chart, etc)
