Do I need to follow a structure to get a band 7?

There is nothing in the band descriptors that states that you have to follow a specific structure in order to get a higher band mark. There are many different ways of answering any question; some might be more effective, however. The most important thing is that you fulfill all of the criteria for the band mark you want. Using a structure for different question types could help you to make sure all parts have been addressed in a logical and coherent way. Sometimes when candidates are left to their own devices, they miss out requirements of the task, they present the answer in a way that is difficult to follow, and the writing has no logical progression. Knowing the requirements of each type of question, and how to present the ideas in body paragraphs can help a candidate to get a higher band mark.
