All candidates are guilty of being below a band 7 unless they can prove their innocence 😆😅

Are you guilty of band 6 behaviour?

Are you guilty of just writing a response to fulfill the requirements of the question? If so, you could be missing out big time in regards to marks for TA. In the question, you are specifically asked to give reasons for your answers. These reasons are the proof that you use to support your points.

A great analogy of the situation you are in when writing is the situation a criminal is in when they are in court. They have to provide proof to prove their innocence. For a band 7 in TA in task 2, proof for ideas is a must. Without this, you are doomed to a max of a band 6 in TA.

After reading hundreds if not thousands of essays, it's come to my notice that not much focus is put on making convincing cases to support opinions. In fact most of the time opinions seem to contradict each other from paragraph to paragraph, and sometimes there are contradictions even in the same paragraph!

A good way of avoiding contradictions is to postpone writing until you have your ideas and supporting ideas ready. Think of yourself as someone whose goal is to convince a judge or jury of their ideas. Ask yourself if you feel that your position is persuasive or not.

Sometimes an examiner might be stuck between giving a 6 or a 7. It's at this time that the smallest thing might sway the examiners decision, and a strong impression by how you communicated your ideas could be the deciding factor when it comes to getting a band 7 for TA.

  1. Outstanding explanation of how we should provide support to our ideas.

  2. I love the metaphor. The British and American systems are, as I am sure you know, quite different in how trials are conducted, ours being adversarial in format. At the end, each side has a "closing argument" summing up the evidence for the jury. Here's where you can work in C&C. Many a silver tongued attorney has won the case not just on the evidence but on how he skillfully orates a path towards a verdict
